Tony, could you tell us about your beginnings in the world of live entertainment and what led you to Folies Gruss, and then to the Cabaret de Licques? TF: Coming from a family of circus artists, performance has run through my veins for five generations. Juggling came as naturally to me as playing football does to other children. My joining Folies Gruss, made possible through my marriage to the daughter of Alexis Gruss, was a decisive step, giving me fifteen years of enriching experiences. However, the desire to take on new challenges pushed me to step out of my comfort zone. Meeting Guillaume and the opportunity to join the Cabaret de Licques appealed to me with the promise of a different, stimulating adventure. The immediate connection with Guillaume and the team strengthened my decision to become part of this exceptional troupe. Between Folies Gruss and the Cabaret de Licques, what similarities and differences do you observe, both in artistic creation and in the audience experience? TF: The performing arts are the vibrant heart of both, and that is what drives me deeply. The staging is a notable difference: the circus ring offers 360° interaction, whereas the cabaret takes a more front-facing approach. This new stage perspective at the Cabaret de Licques drew me in for its greater proximity to the audience, even though the audience is less visible than in a circus. What sets the Cabaret de Licques apart from other performance venues? TF: The distinction lies primarily in the atmosphere created by the people who bring the venue to life. Guillaume’s philosophy is to value and respect every team member, which fosters a palpable sense of camaraderie and harmony within our team. This positive dynamic is felt by the audience, who reflect that energy back to us, creating a unique and memorable experience. How has your time with Folies Gruss influenced your work at the Cabaret de Licques? TF: The influence is not limited to Folies Gruss; every experience enriches my journey. An artist is constantly evolving, continually questioning their craft. My rapid adaptation and exploration of new approaches at the Cabaret de Licques reflect this ongoing evolution, fuelled by the trust and artistic freedom Guillaume gives me. How does your collaboration with the Cabaret de Licques allow you to explore new artistic dimensions? TF: This collaboration opens up a new stage space and a different clientele, both conducive to experimentation. The trust Guillaume places in me is crucial; it encourages me to test new ideas with complete freedom, which is extremely valuable for my artistic development. What would you like the audience to take away from their experiences at the Cabaret de Licques, and in particular from your performances? TF: What I want most is to share joie de vivre, happiness, and laughter. Making people laugh is the essence of my artistic pleasure and the key to memorable performances.
