The show posters represent a part of the cabaret’s history. Since its opening, the Cabaret de Licques has continuously reinvented itself to become an iconic music hall venue in the Hauts-de-France region. The seasons follow one another and the revues evolve each time. Feathers, rhinestones, and sequins are always present at festive evenings and attract audiences from increasingly distant horizons.

The History of Advertising Posters
Poster advertising developed in 1539 with an ordinance by Francis Ist. In the 19th century, poster advertising experienced significant growth following Haussmann’s renovations. Every piece of wall now came to life with posters. They overlapped and layered to form a living mosaic that evolved with each new posting. The first advertising media appeared:
- for high-level display, the gable wall for long-term use
- the Morris column provided space for cabaret and theater advertising
- illuminated newspaper kiosks, chalets, public conveniences—advertising took over street furniture.
- from the early 1900s, the metro followed with platforms, tunnel interiors, corridors, and even stair risers
In the 20th century, poster advertising continued its urban expansion.
The oldest cabaret posters date back to the late 1890s. They notably include the famous posters of Parisian cabarets.
