For its brand new show, the Cabaret de Licques has called upon Timothée Charles AUFRAY, a talented dancer and choreographer. In a brief interview, Timothée reveals all the behind-the-scenes details of the Fantastic show.
From dance to choreography: A rich journey
Dance holds no secrets for Timothée Charles AUFRAY. He has been immersed in it since the age of 3. Originally from Le Mans, the young boy quickly stood out from the group, winning unanimous acclaim at the regional and national dance competitions in which he participated. His talent and ambition soon led him to audition in Paris and then in the United States. Following his training at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York, Timothée Charles AUFRAY established his own performance company. He creates choreography for concerts and shows in France and abroad.
The meeting of two men
In 2020, he crossed paths with Guillaume Cocquerel, the founder of the Cabaret de Licques. He shares his passion for music hall. From this meeting was born the project to create a different and ambitious show. For this third show at the cabaret, the two men aim for nothing less than perfection: “seeking excellence brings excellence.”
To achieve this, Timothée Charles AUFRAY draws inspiration from his various experiences in the world of prestigious French establishments (Royal Palace, Moulin Rouge, etc.) and international venues. The setting and configuration of the Cabaret de Licques stage inspire him. The choreography is then crafted with numerous fluid and organic movements, with French glamour as its underlying theme.
Inspired by the music and the venue, the choreographer has woven each tableau with the same exacting standards as those of Parisian cabarets. With each movement, he adds his signature touch, that “functional feeling” that characterizes him. The pursuit of fluidity and natural movement is taken to its peak.
The pursuit of excellence does not stop at choreography and is reflected in the choice of artists. Guillaume Cocquerel and Timothée Charles AUFRAY have enlisted dancers who have graced prestigious venues such as the Lido and the Paradis Latin. Every evening, they help convey all the choreographer’s talent.
Since the reopening of the Cabaret de Licques, success has been renewed among spectators, further confirming Guillaume Cocquerel’s successful gamble: to bring excellence to a rural setting.
